Mabuchi Akiko 　About the Artwork

In the vast and profound natural world, I am the only one who can prove my own existence, and within that space, I strongly feel that I am also a part of nature. I want to capture the sensation of my 'being' merging into this powerful yet ephemeral, beautiful yet terrifying nature, and I aim to depict such spaces.

In my previous works, I sought depth within the canvas, being drawn to expressions that immerse blue deeply, utilizing the bleeding of watercolor paints to pursue expansiveness and softness. I have valued creating spaces imbued with subtle life and humidity while keeping specific forms ambiguous.

While my desire to depict such spaces remains unchanged, I have recently become captivated by white. Clouds, snow, mist... white is a color we often see in our daily lives, yet when we try to grasp it, it becomes transparent and loses its shape. Reflecting all colors, white possesses a variety of expressions, resonating with the feelings I experience in nature. I create my works hoping to draw out the air and fragrance that extend beyond the ambiguity of white from the canvas.e paper, and canvas works. Thank you in advance.
