About the Opening Hara Hiroshi

This opening will be a roundtable discussion in which I will discuss the background of my work and answer participants' questions. This will be the artist's first solo exhibition at the gallery in a year and six months, since his last exhibition at Art Beatus Gallery in Hong Kong in 2016. During this time, I was inspired by the chaos of Hong Kong, and since then I have participated in various art events and had the most meaningful and intense time in my life as an artist so far.

At the opening, I would like to take this opportunity to talk frankly about my influences, the transition I went through, and the ideology of the artist before my works were created, in an organized manner. I hope to bring those things to light by answering participants' questions. I will also exhibit "flame/flame," which is based on the same concept as the sliding door painting "fire" that I contributed to the temple.

The artist talked about the events of his art activities and the origins of his works since the summer of 2015. For the artist, various events and encounters with the people involved in those events turn into energy for the next production activities.
Why does he create these works of art? Because he visited the Kozuki Yasuo Museum of Art about 20 years ago and was very impressed by the paintings. In the midst of the war, the artist painted with burnt pieces of wood.

In a time when nothing was available, he painted with paper and charcoal, which he painstakingly produced with his own hands. The great emotion of the painting continued to linger in his memory.
Later, he developed a method of attaching soot (oily smoke) directly to the picture before making charcoal. Through repeated trial and error, he has come to this day.
The talk provided no small amount of insight into the source of the artist's creativity.

Artist Name: HARA Hiroshi 　Real name: TANIKAWA Hiroshi

Born in Takamatsu City, 1956. Graduated from Tama Art University, Department of Painting, 1979 Born in Kagawa, Japan in 1956, Hara majored in oil painting at Tama Art University. After experimenting with various materials such as glass and bark, since 2003, he has been using handmade Japanese paper and ink (Suiboku-ga technique) to create minimalistic works on the theme of "phenomenon and action". Currently, he is not concerned with the material of expression in his work. He believes that self-expression is born from an internal necessity and that it is important to compare the self (our culture) with others (other cultures).
He has participated in numerous exhibitions including Art Fair Tokyo (2008-2010), Art HK (Hong Kong, 2010), Art Taipei 2012 (Taipei, 2012), Unbound Perspectives Exhibition (New York, 2012), Kagawa Yamanami Art Festival (Kagawa Prefecture, 2013-2019). He has participated in many exhibitions such as Art Taipei 2012 (Taipei, Taiwan, 2010), Unbound Perspectives Exhibition (New York, 2012), Kagawa Yamanami Art Festival (Kagawa, 2013-2019).
