The Other Side of the Glass　　　Osamu Fujita

What I see is always on the other side of the glass.
Information from around the world is available on my PC display, and compact news is available on TV news programs.
Yes, I also read newspapers on my tablet screen these days.
Emails from family and friends arrive on tiny cell phone screens.
So, everyone comes from the other side of the glass.
The prints I make and exhibit, as well as the objects in boxes, are all tucked away behind glass.

In addition, I have poor eyesight, so I always see the world through the lenses of my glasses.
When I think about it, everything I see is on the other side of the glass.
It was this point of view that led me to form this solo exhibition.

For my prints, I use a technique called photopolymer gravure to cut out ordinary frames of everyday life and turn them into something extraordinary.
These were initially cut out with the lens of a camera.
For the objet d'art, I assembled new images in a box by combining objects that came to my studio and objects that I liked.

A 2mm piece of glass is always inserted in front of the box.
Just as the news you see may have slightly different information depending on the person who sees it, my work may be perceived in different ways by different viewers.
However, I hope that the information will not be sad, but will be deeply and softly absorbed into the heart of the viewer.

I am pleased to announce that I will be holding a solo exhibition at "Artland Gallery.
This will be my first exhibition in Shikoku (Marugame).
I hope that as many people as possible will come to see my work.
Please come and take a peek behind the small glass.
Can I see the Seto Inland Sea through the window glass of an airplane?
I am looking forward to seeing it.
