Times and Frames　　　　 Seki Masakazu

It is often said that we should not stay in our shells and that we cannot make progress unless we break down our shells, but by nature, people do not stay in one place. Even in the world of painting, it is not so much that people have consciously tried to destroy the old, but rather that the pain of inheriting the previous era as it was has changed the times.

The vortex that seeks the new without being satisfied with the old creates an era. However, no genius can ever be outside of his or her own time period. Rather, it is only when one is influenced by the vortex that one's work can become innovative and powerful. There is not a single instance of a single person flying away, kicking everything around him or her. And the appetite for the new never stops. Rauschenberg and Warhol are now classics. That is how fast the times have moved.

Unlike conventional painting, contemporary art, which at first glance appears to be free and expresses what the artist wants to say using a grand device, is still within a large framework.
And it can be said that the great vortex that is said to be changing the times was originally developed from the desires of individuals.
