Artland Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by Hiroko Hosomi, who has been holding solo exhibitions throughout Japan featuring humorous animal objects made of metal and glass.
She was born in Osaka in 1967 and currently lives and works in Okayama. In this exhibition, her first at Artland Gallery, she will exhibit about 60 objects, mainly frogs and birds, which she continues to create with her unique world view.

Hosomi's objects are characterized by their combination of metal and glass.
Tin alloy, which melts at relatively low temperatures, is used for the metal, and the entire process, from making the various parts to the entire object, is done by hand using a soldering iron. Glass, on the other hand, is made by hand using a combination of blown glass and solid-work glass.

　Hosomi explains his creative world using these materials with three key words.
The basic policy of modeling is "genealogy of life. Like life in the natural world, which changes in various ways during the process of development and growth, Hosomi expresses a genealogy of life based on his own unique view of the world. The method of inspiration lies in "discovery in daily life," and the importance of imagination is how to connect the experience of daily life to modeling. Her method of expression is "figuration within abstraction. She creates the whole in an abstract manner, but makes the parts she wants to insist on figurative with deformation and exaggeration. She also replaces the material with glass, and devotes all her attention to measuring the total figurative balance of metal and glass.

In the world of objects created by Hosomi, her unique sense of humor plays a leading role, as if it were the source of the world's life-sustaining energy. The bird carrying a frog on its back, shown in the guidebook, is a red glass goldfish on its crown, trapping the viewer in a sense of humor. The continental and neutral conception of the word "self" used in the title "Selfish Animal Paradise World" may make you feel the artist sitting in the imaginary center of Hosomi's world, laughing at the delicate sentiments behind the insular and feminine conception of the word "private" with a caracara.

This exhibition will feature a workshop (see below for details) in which participants will melt tin alloy with a soldering iron, enjoy free modeling, and take home framed works of art they have created. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity, which is rarely experienced in daily life, to drop the melted metal and combine the small lumps that harden as soon as they fall. The exhibition will be open on Tuesdays, so please do not miss it.
