Mitsunobu Sagawa – Biography

Mitsunobu Sagawa is a glass artist based in Otaru, Hokkaido. He creates unique blown glass works as a member of The Glass Studio.

The studio, named The Glass Studio, is located at the foot of Mount Tengu, just outside the town of Otaru. Nestled harmoniously within the surrounding landscape, the elegant building is home to the daily creation of new works.
The history of the studio dates back to 1979, when it was founded by glass artist Chiyoji Asahara and six staff members as a studio glass workshop. As stated on their website, their goal is “to share the charm of glass art with a wider audience, and to let people experience the true character of handmade glass.” Once you use one of their pieces, it becomes indispensable — your palm or lips unconsciously trace the contours of the glass, as if naturally guided by its form. This unique sense of fit is what they call the “soul of handmade.”
