Ishii Yuuka - Statement

I create paintings through the citation of motifs and brushstrokes reminiscent of stereotypical Western paintings, as well as through the compilation and editing of symbolic elements like alphabets, playing cards, and piano scores. By selecting and discerning from the vast amount of what is called painting, and through the way these elements are depicted, I explore the establishment of painting and the verification of its countless combinations.

Ishii Yuuk

Born in Kagawa Prefecture in 1995. Graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tama Art University in 2019 and completed a master's degree in Oil Painting at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, in 2022. Major exhibitions to date include 3cm and 3km - Looking Across (2023, TEZUKAYAMA GALLERY, Osaka), Two-Person Exhibition: Yuka Shiohara, Yuko Ishii (2022, Satoko Oe Contemporary, Tokyo), Yuko Ishii & Taro Maruyama ENCOUNTER (2022, Mitsukoshi Contemporary Gallery, Tokyo), Long Text Wind Speed Meter (2022, Akihaba Tamabi 21, Tokyo), among others.
