Miyazaki Ikuko: Greeting

In 1995, the year when the Kobe earthquake, as well as the Sarin gas attacks on the Tokyo subway shook the world, I encountered the works of Egon Schiele for the first time in a bookshop in Okayama, and was deeply impacted. Since then, I have continued to create homages works to Schiele.

A quarter of a century has passed in the blink of an eye, and my dream of holding the "100th Anniversary Egon Schiele’s Death: Ikuko Miyazaki Exhibition" in a place connected to Schiele has come true. The exhibition was held in the best location: Egon Schiele Art Center in Český Krumlov, Czech Republic—the town Schiele loved most and where his mother was born. My encounter with Schiele enriched my life.

The life-size Schiele ball-jointed doll I made will be waiting for his lover Wally at Egon Schiele Art Center in Český Krumlov. But all plans were thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic. Then war broke out, making travel to and from other countries inconvenient.

Now, I feel a little bit of a bright spot, and with a new spirit I made small Schiele dolls.
This is the first exhibition in Marugame for me. Thank you very much.
