Words for the Solo Exhibition　　　　Toshihiro Takagi

For me, artistic expression is a projection of a small reality through the filter of myself. I express myself by reexamining the elements of expression, such as color and form, in order to convey the fascinating and interesting metaphors of the natural elements that speak to us in our ordinary lives.

For my paintings, I uses acrylics and mineral pigments. In the last few years, I have been particularly interested in pencil drawings. I hope to convey the richness of the subject's expression in a more straightforward manner using the most familiar and simple of materials.

In art history, I am particularly interested in Nanga. In particular, I feel that the simplicity of expression and symbolism found in the works of Ike no Taiga is an ideal method of mastication of painting. In this exhibition, I have a series of paintings composed mainly of circles and dots, and I have been enlightened by the expression of Nanga in many aspects.
