Yoshimori Kataoka is a contemporary artist who exhibits her works at solo show in Tokyo, and special exhibitions, art fairs both in Japan and abroad. Her painting medium is mixed media. She uses acrylics, oil pastels, and collage to express her unique world view.

Kataoka Yoshimori Message

Usually, I create my works by layering and scraping colors many times to create a sense of heaviness. When I heard about the purpose of this exhibition, I decided to abandon my usual process and use a technique I had never tried before.
The technique I used this time was the oil transfer technique invented by Paul Klee. I made a transfer paper with oil black, put it on a piece of drawing paper, and painted over it. Although it was easy to copy, it was difficult to copy the brushstrokes and pressure marks that accentuate the painting.
Watercolors were used for the light colors. I was not sure whether to use monotone or not, but I thought the accents would stand out more, so I used one color. It was a good opportunity to try a technique I had wanted to try someday.
